These ants seem to prefer the warmth and moisture of coastal areas. The ants have multiple queens in their colonies; which makes extermination more challenging. They have forced out other species of ants in some locations. They are primarily taking over areas where red or fire ants exist and they are rapidly expanding their areas. The largest area of infestation has been in Texas, but they are expanding to all coastal towns.
Ants Damage Electronics
While the sting and reaction to the fire ant is a problem, these ants will normally stay outside. What makes the crazy ants more of an issue is that these newer ants invade your home. Once inside they can cause damage to electrical wiring and equipment. They have been found inside phones, laptops, TVs, transformers, air conditioners, near electrical outlets, and can cause damage to anything electrical.
