Bed Bug Infestation

There are a number of different signs that you can look for to know if you have a bed bug infestation. A bed bug is a hitchhiker and can be brought into your home from a number of different areas. Once inside your home you may quickly find that you have an infestation problem. Over the course of its lifetime, a female bed bug can lay over 500 eggs. By doing a bed bug inspection, you can quickly determine if you have bed bugs in your home. Bed bugs are a very small insect and they are often hard to find. There are some definite signs that you may have a bed bug infestation in your home. Some of these are:

  • Bites
  • Bug Casings or shedded skin
  • Blood stains or smears on sheets
  • Fecal matter
  • Small white eggs
  • Bed bugs themselves – This will usually be a dead bed bug

Where Do Bed Bugs Hide

Bed bugs are hitchhikers and can be found in many areas of the home. Bed bugs can come into your home from luggage, coats and other clothing. Bed bugs are nocturnal pest and will often be found hiding during the day. A visual inspection can help you to determine if you have a bed bug problem. Some of the area to check are:

  • You can find bed bugs In cracks/crevices in protected locations near a food source
  • Along the seams of mattresses or box springs
  • Bed frames, headboards and other bedroom furniture are great hiding places for bed bugs
  • Bed Bugs will hitchike on your Luggage
  • Coats
  • Woodwork and recessed screw holes
  • Bed bugs can be found in Upholstered chairs and sofas
  • Under the edges of wall-to-wall-carpeting is a common hiding place for bed bugs
  • Under loose wallpaper

Bed Bug Monitors

There are some commercially sold bed bug monitors that are sold to detect bed bugs in your home. Interception devices or active bed bug monitors are a good way to detect a bed bug infestation. This should be done along with a visual inspection. If you think that you have a bed bug problem, the best way to know for sure is to call a bed bug exterminator to check your home.
